One pair of cats and their offspring can turn into 420,000 cats in seven years.

Did you know that the BCHS (Beadle County Humane Society), over the course of the last six years relocated to farms, from the city limits, more than 1,143 cats un-altered? Does this sound logical and humane to you?

Did you know that during those same six years the BCHS euthanized more than 862 animals for reasons unspecified. This is public information available at the City Of Huron’s website under City Commission meeting minutes. Did you know that the BCHS continues to trap cats even with its kennels being full?  What do they do with these cats when the kennels are full - which is quite frequent? Farm them out un-altered or euthanize them?

I know for a fact that they turn residents away who want to surrender their animals for various  reasons because they claim to be full. Did you know that the BCHS gets $75,000 a year of TAXPAYERS money to perform the “Animal Control” function for the City Of Huron. Don’t you think because this is TAXPAYERS money they should be held accountable for these funds?  

Do you think it is possible that all of the above is happening because of the BCHS’s “limited” hours that they are open to the public? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon. This is when the kennels are being cleaned. Other Eastern S.D. shelters hours: Aberdeen - Tuesday- Saturday, 1-5, Sunday 1-4; Brookings - Tuesday-Friday, noon  to 6 p.m., Saturday 11-4; Sioux Falls -  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.,  Sunday 11-4; Watertown Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Yankton - Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 10-2.
