HURON — Friends and neighbors of the late Darrell Hofer gathered Friday north of Huron, to lend a helping hand to his family in bringing in this year’s corn crop.
Approximately 65 volunteers - running combines, shuffling from the threshers to the waiting trucks, transporting the crop as well as preparing and serving lunch - turned out on a perfect fall day to harvest 425 acres of corn.
Heather Bischoff, with the Bauman Agency, which was a prime organizer of Friday’s event, noted that Pioneer Seeds had donated food for the lunch prepared by and enjoyed by the volunteers. In addition to Bauman Agency/Pioneer Seed, Agtegra also donated toward the food. Most of the day was organized by Vic Kleinsasser and dessert for the crew were donated by the ladies at Bethel Church.
