SIOUX FALLS — Seventh-grader Jaidynn Giedd of Kingsbury County finished third at 138 pounds during the State Girls’ Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Giedd, who reached the semifinals before suffering her first loss, pinned senior Kieonna Smith of Canton with 10 seconds remaining in the first period to claim third place. She finished the season at 23-10.
Junior Reganne Miles finished fourth for Doland at 152.
Marieda Kalahar of Rapid City Stevens recorded a pin against Miles at the 4:04 mark of their match on Saturday.
Miles finishes the season at 24-7.
Senior Dani Batchelor of Clark/Willow Lake finished eighth at 107.
Brandy Marshall of Lakota Tech recorded a 16-10 decision against Batchelor in their final match to claim the seventh spot.
Batchelor ends the season at 19-8.
Pierre edged Canton for the State Girls’ Tournament team title. The Governors finished at 139, while Canton fell just short with 138.5 points.
It marks the third straight year that Pierre and Canton have finished first and second, respectively, in the race for the team title.
Harrisburg was third at 102.5, followed by Aberdeen Central at 86 and Lakota Tech at 81.
