Giedd, Miles to wrestle for third at state girls' tourney

SIOUX FALLS — A pair of area girls will be wrestling for third-place today at the State Girls’ Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

After suffering setbacks in the semifinals on Friday morning, Jaidynn Giedd of Kingsbury County at 138 pounds and Reganne Miles of Doland at 152 rebounded with wins in the fourth round consolation to secure spots in their respective third-place matches.

Giedd advanced to the semifinals with a pair of pins. She got past Jayda Steinke of Pierre with a pin at the 1:09 mark of her opening match and then pinned Katelyn Yexley of Watertown in 3:10.

Madison Snyder of Sturgis stopped the semi-final match against Giedd at 1:59 to reach the championship match.

Giedd then recorded a 6-0 decision against Jasmin Perez of Mobridge-Pollocks to secure a spot in the third-place match. She will face Kieonna Smith of Canton today.

Top-seeded Abbigail Lewis of Pierre ended Miles’ bid for a state title with a pin at the 2:55 mark of their semi-final match at 152.

Milles rebounded with a pin at the 3:23 mark against Emerson Skuodas of Harrisburg to advance to the third-place match.

She will face Marieda Kalahar of Rapid City Stevens today.

Dani Batchelor of Clark/Willow Lake recorded a win in the consolation second round at 107 on Friday morning. She pinned Darla Barnes of Lemmon/McIntosh in 48 seconds.
Batchelor will face Brandy Marshall of Lakota Tech for seventh place today.

Huron’s Chalie Sah recorded a win in her first match Friday, defeating Lilly Toft of Brookings by pin in 3:49 during the second round consolation at 107. However, her tournament ended a match later, when Madyson Gillen of Aberdeen Central recorded a pin in 2:24 during the third round conslation.

Kyla Logan also recorded a win in the consolation second round on Friday morning. She pinned Julie Pitsenberger of Flandreau in 1:47 during the first round consolation at 132.

Tahnie Yellowhawk of Sully Buttes ended Logan’s tournament in the next round with a 6-2 decision.

Naw Htoo Ywe of Huron recorded a pin at 2:39 in her first round consolation match against Averie Brehm of Rapid City Stevens at 100. Kendall Clayton needed just 36 seconds to get past Ywe with a pin in the next round to end her tournament.

Kayeleigh Bowden of Huron at 138 and Bailey Yost of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington at 114 suffered setbacks in the first round consolation on Friday morning to end their tournaments.

Bowden suffered a loss by pin to Cheyenne Fuller of Sully Buttes at 4:40.

Frankie Kranz of Mitchell stopped her match against Yost with a pin at 2:17.

The placing matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Today, with the championship matches to follow at 1 p.m.
