SIOUX FALLS — Huron junior Moses Gross won his second title in the past three years on Saturday at the Class A State Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

After recording three straight pins to reach the title match at 150 pounds, Gross used an 8-3 decision against junior Joseph Nadig of Sturgis to claim the championship.

Gross was able to take control of the match early with a takedown and three near-fall points to go up 5-0.

Nadig earned an escape with a minute to go in the period, but Gross was able to carry a 7-1 lead into the second period with a takedown with just eight seconds remaining on the clock.

After a scoreless second period, Gross used an escape to go up 8-1. He yielded a takedown to Nadig with just eight seconds remaining in the match, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Sturgis wrestler.

Gross finished his junior season with a 38-1 mark.

Sturgis amassed 197.5 points during this year’s Class A event to claim the team championship. It ended a run of three consecutive state titles for Brandon Valley.

Pierre finished second at 176, followed by Aberdeen Central at 139, West Central at 127 and Brandon Valley at 123.5.

With Gross as the lone placewinner, Huron finished 17th with 30 points.
