Hanson, Heinz win titles for Tigers at Huron Invite

HURON –– The Huron Tigers hosted the Huron Invitational track meet on Friday at Tiger Stadium, with ten teams coming to town for the early-season meet.

Huron had two title winners, as Thackary Hansen won the boys’ 100-meter dash and Hylton Heinz took the top spot in the girls’ javelin.

Isaak Hunter of Miller had the best performance of any of the area athletes that attended the meet, taking first in the 110-meter boys’ hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Tigers are back in action Thursday at the Corn Palace Relays in Mitchell.

Warbirds girls second at Ipswich Early Bird
IPSWICH –– The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds girls’ track and field team scored a second-place finish as part of the Ipswich Early Bird meet Friday in Ipswich.

Host Ipswich won the girls’ team title with 143.25 points. The Warbirds came in second with 116.25 points with Warner coming in third at 113.25.
Hitchcock-Tulare finished with 48 points.

North Central won a tight boys’ competition, with 105 team points, edging Ipswich (91) and Groton Area (85).

The Patriots scored 54.5 team points and Wolsey-Wessington tallied 37 team points.

Kendal Uttecht was able to win three of four events she participated in for the Warbirds, winning the 400-meter and 800-meter runs and also being part of the first-place 4x200 relay team. Uttecht was part of the 4x400 relay team that finished third.

Kenli Hooks (shot put) and Tatum Luce (high jump) also won individual titles for the Lady Warbirds.

Emma Schneider won the long jump for Hitchcock-Tulare’s lone individual title.

De Smet girls win team title at Vince Relays
ELKTON –– The De Smet Bulldogs girls’ track and field team coasted to a team title in the six-team Vince Relays held Saturday in Elkton.

The Bulldogs finished with 222 points. Flandreau finished second with 150 team points and Sioux Valley placed third with 85 points.

Sioux Valley edged out Flandreau in the boys’ team competition, 199.5-189.
De Smet finished fourth with 66 team points.

Rogan Albrecht had a strong day for the Bulldogs boys, winning the 100-meter dash, finishing second in the 200-meter dash, and as part of the first-place 4x100-meter relay.

The De Smet girls won the team title with contributions from a number of girls as seven Bulldogs won individual titles, led by Charli McCune, who won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Gemma Luethmers won the 100-meter dash, Cambria Gross won the 3200-meter run, and the Bulldogs won the 4x800 relay and the medley relay in track events.

In field events, Ivey Schoenfelder and Audi Currier traded first- and second-place finishes in the shot and discus, with Schoenfelder taking first in shot while Currier finished second, then swapping results in the discus. Mirra Beck won the high jump and Adalyn Gross won the long jump for De Smet.

SBA participates in Bill Pistulka Invite
WINNER –– Sunshine Bible Academy participated in the Bill Pistulka Invite Saturday in Winner.

Host Winner won the team title on the boys’ side, with 132 team points. Sunshine Bible Academy finished with 25 points, tied for seventh.

Burke won the girls’ team title with 97 points. SBA finished eighth with 38 team points.

The Sunshine Bible boys were led by Reagan Sandness, who placed second in the 1600-meter run. Henrik Wipf placed fifth in the 800-meter run and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. Jensen Wipf placed sixth in the 400-meter run, Carter Crump finished seventh in the 800-meter run, and Nick Erickson finished eighth in the 800-meter run.

The Crusaders boys took third in the 4x800 relay and 4x400 relay, and sixth in the 4x200 relay.

On the girls’ side, relays did well for SBA, with the 4x400 relay winning the title, the medley relay took second, and the 4x800 relay and 4x200 relay took third.

Abby Hinman took third in the 100-meter dash, Ciera Mickelson finished eighth in high jump and Soleil Mickelson placed sixth in the 400-meter run and sixth in the high jump.
