Magic Painting Bags
¼ cup liquid laundry starch
3 Tablespoons powdered tempera paint (or food coloring)
1 Ziploc plastic bag
Pour starch and paint into the bag. Squeeze out the air before closing the bag. An extra piece of tape across the top will prevent leaks. Squeeze the bag gently with your fingers to blend the paint and starch. Lay the bag down on a table. Use your fingers and hands to create one picture after another, smoothing out the bag each time you are ready to erase what you have done.
Enjoy finger-painting without ever touching the paint.
Play Dough
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon cooking oil
½ cup salt
Food coloring
In saucepan, mix dry ingredients. Add liquids. Cook 3 minutes stirring constantly. Knead. Store in airtight container.
Cornstarch Clay
1 cup cornstarch
1 1/3 cup cold water
2 cups salt
Put salt and 2/3 cup water in pan and bring to boil. Mix cornstarch with remaining water and stir well. Blend these two mixtures together and knead.
Mold the clay into various shapes and let dry. Paint them when they are dry.
Unused clay must be kept in a covered jar or plastic bag in the refrigerator to be used another day.
Giant Chalk Stick
2 Tablespoons powdered tempera paint
½ cup water
3 Tablespoons plaster of paris
Small waxed paper cups
Mix the paint and water together in the cup. Slowly add the plaster of paris.
Stir until creamy. When the mixture feels hard (about an hour) peel off the cup and you will have a giant chalk stick. If you dip the chalk in water, it will slip and slide easily on paper and colors will be brighter.
Bubbles
8 cups water
2/3 cup liquid dish soap
30 drops glycerin

Finger Paint
4 Tablespoons cornstarch
3 Tablespoons cold water
