Heartland restaurants to be featured on national program

America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to a pair of Heartland area restaurants next week.

On Tuesday, July 16, Sweet Grass, a restaurant in Wessington Springs will host ABR, with the focus shifting to Huron’s Prime Time Tavern on Friday, July 19.

Prime Time Tavern - Huron
Open since 1979, Prime Time Tavern is unique in that the menu is beef only, featuring filet mignon, beef tips, or prime rib as entrees and at an extremely reasonable price point. Several varieties of hamburgers are also available, and a ‘Black and Bleu’ steak salad.

They make their own steak sauce, signature ranch dressing, and are famous for their margaritas according to owner Maria Dorris. Prime Time Tavern is open for dinner, Monday through Saturday.

Dorris began working at the longtime eatery when she was in high school, and has worked every position from cook to dishwasher to manager and became the business owner three years ago.

“The Prime Time has always been family-owned and even though I’m not blood, I’m still family,” she says, adding that she would like people to come in and experience what Prime Time Tavern has to offer. “You need to like beef, because that’s all we serve!”

Sweet Grass - Wessington Springs
With the tagline “Small town charm, big city class,” Sweet Grass was nominated to be on the Roadshow by customer Mary Thompson. The establishment, which opened in 2012 and owned by Heather Larson, is a restaurant, cafe, bakery and caterer, serving creative upscale dishes with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.

The menu offers an array of sandwiches, burgers, salads, wings and specialty pizza. Steak and seafood dinners are also available, along with weekend prime rib and a full wine list.

The bakery offers breads, pies, cookies, decorated cakes and an array of other items such as homemade jams and salsa.

Sweet Grass is located in an historic downtown building, a former car dealership among other businesses, built in 1918 by the international fraternal order the Odd Fellows. It features a tin ceiling, exposed brick walls, and an eclectic, whimsical decor with greenery and a vintage selection of furniture and decorative accents.

ABR will film in each respective eatery from 2 to 5 p.m. on the dates indicated. Both business owners will be featured with in-depth interviews, about the restaurants and their special place in each community. Popular dishes will also be highlighted.

Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are selected based on their customer reviews, menu items, social media presence, and level of involvement with their community. They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.
