This holiday season, Hitchcock-Tulare FCCLA Members Isabel Gilbert and Katelyn Schroeder came together to spread cheer in a heartfelt way by collecting Christmas decorations and goodies for The Greyson Project, which is an organization that provides holiday joy to children and families at children hospitals across the country.
The project has been helping families for several years, ensuring they receive Christmas bags filled with decorations to transform the sterile hospital environment into a festive, comforting place. The aim of the bags is to bring a sense of normalcy and warmth to families who may be spending the holidays in the hospital, far from the usual celebrations.
Isabel and Katelyn started this project in October after a teacher in the district introduced them to The Greyson Project. After deciding on participating in this project, they challenged community members and students in both the Hitchcock-Tulare School District as well as the Doland School District to donate items to their cause.
After collecting items, Isabel and Katelyn packed and delivered 44 bags to the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls on December 15th. The hard work from these students ensures that families would have a little more joy and light during a difficult time.
