The Holy Trinity Catholic School second grade art classroom competed in South Dakota’s Junior Duck Stamp Contest this year.

Ms. Beth Iverson, Holy Trinity’s art teacher, lead the students in creating their works of art. They talked about the anatomy of the duck and invited Elizabeth Sicard from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in to speak to the class about the Junior Duck Stamp, wetlands, and conservation.

Two HTCS second grade students, Cristy and Christopher, placed third in their age division and were awarded a bag full of goodies. Four students, Easton, Thiago, Maralee, and Kauris, received Honorable Mentions.

The Junior Duck Stamp program is a wildlife art contest put on by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for students in grades K-12 that allows students to show what they have learned about waterfowl and wetland conservation by drawing or painting a native North American duck, goose, or swan. Funds raised from sales of the $5 collectible Junior Duck Stamp are used to educate and engage our nation’s youth in wildlife and wetland conservation and outdoor recreation.
