WATERTOWN — Huron golfer Bryn Huber claimed her second state golf title in less than two months Wednesday, topping the field to earn the championship in the S.D. Golf Association Junior Championship.

Jake Olson of Watertown took the boys’ title, which was played at the Cattail Crossing Golf Course.

Huber won the S.D. High School Activities Association’s Class AA individual title in early June, in a one-hole playoff, but held off a determined challenge from Oliva Braun of Aberdeen for the title, shooting a 15-over-par score of 231 in the three-day tournament.

Braun was one stroke back, and Mattie Weidenbach from Sioux Falls finished third, with a 234. Miller’s Jayce Pugh shot 235 for fourth and Riley Zebroski finished fifth.

Huber trailed Braun by three strokes after the first day of play, but turned it around and held a two-shot lead headed to the final round. She shot a 76 on Wednesday, to Braun’s 75, but it was enough to hold on for the win.

Huber was the only golfer in the field who shot in the 70s for all three days, 79-76-76, contributing to her victory.

Olson ended with an 11-under-par 205 (71-65-69) to easily outdistance runner up Sawyer Sonnenschein of Fort Pierre, who shot 212. Watertown’s Sam Hansen was third, Hayden Scott was fourth and Luke Olson finished fifth.

As Huber did, Jake Olson trailed by one shot after the opening round, but shot a tournament best -7 Tuesday to take command of the tournament.
