RENNER – Though they finished with more runs scored than any other team that didn’t make the championship bracket, the Huron 14U Tigers lost their final game of pool play at the South Dakota Class A 14U state tournament Saturday in Renner.

Saturday, the Tigers played a tight game with Sioux Falls Post 15. Post 15 scored first, putting up two runs in the first and one in the third to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning.

That’s when the Tigers’ offense exploded for five runs to take the lead. Post 15 tied the score in the bottom of the fifth, leading to an exciting final seventh inning.

Huron scored one run in the top of the inning, leaving runners at second and third. Post 15 then took advantage of control issues to draw two walks and a hit by pitch along with a pair of singles, the final of which drove in the game-winning run, as Post 15 walked off with a 7-6 victory.

Jeremy Hofer opened the game on the mound, allowing three runs over 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and seven walks, striking out three. Anderson Porisch then tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks, striking out one. CJ Siedschlag did not record an out in the seventh, allowing two runs on two walks and two hits.

The Huron offense powered out five extra-base hits, led by Hofer, who had a double and a triple. Siedschlag, Porisch, and Landon Hulst each had a double.

Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles and a stolen base. Porisch and Gavin Waldner each added a steal.

Huron finishes the season with a 25-14 record.

Huron faced the Watertown Grey Sox Friday at Bob Shelden Field. The Grey Sox pounded the ball, scoring six runs in the first inning and used seven Huron errors to have big innings in the second and third to force a 15-0 run-rule defeat of the Tigers.

Parker Bischoff opened the game on the mound, allowing six runs on two hits and five walks.

Josh Gilbert relieved Bischoff, and tossed two innings before Watertown walked off with the win, allowing nine runs, all unearned, on six hits and two walks, striking out one.

The Tigers managed just two hits in the game, led by Carter Porisch’s double.

Defensive woes would again plague Huron in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Pierre at Erv Huether Field.

Huron scored first, putting up a run in the bottom of the first, and outhit Pierre 4-1, but four Tiger errors allowed Pierre to come back and pull off the victory.

Porisch made the start, going five innings, allowing four runs, only one earned, on one hit and three walks. He struck out five.

Bischoff completed the game with a scoreless inning of relief.

The Huron offense was led by Porisch with two singles and two stolen bases. Jackson Ford also swiped a pair of bases, while Tyce Huber nabbed one stolen base.

Colt Culver had a double and a steal.

Huron ends the year with a 8-26-1 record.
