Huron 13U team competes in state tournament

BROOKINGS – The Huron 13U Tigers opened the state tournament Thursday evening with an 11-1 loss to Renner at Bob Shelden Field in Brookings.
Huron put the first run on the board in the top of the second inning, but Renner responded with four runs in the third and scored seven in the bottom of the fourth to walk off with the run-rule victory.
Blaise Simon went the distance for Huron, tossing 3 2/3 innings, allowing 11 runs on six hits and 10 walks, striking out four.
The Tiger offense managed just two hits, though both were of the extra-base variety. Josh Gilbert and Tyce Huber each powered a double.
Huron faces the Watertown Grey Sox Friday evening and Pierre today at 2:30 p.m. to finish up pool play.
