Huron 13U splits in pair of games against Groton

HURON – The Huron 13U Tigers took the first game of Monday’s doubleheader against Groton 14U at Klock Field 10-5 but dropped the finale 19-6.

The two teams were knotted 3-3 after two innings, but the Tigers put up seven runs between the fourth and fifth innings to clinch the 10-5 victory.

Carter Porisch opened the game on the mound, tossing four innings, allowing three runs on a hit and seven walks, striking out eight. Parker Bischoff closed out the game, hurling two innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.

Jaxon Spoonmore led the Huron attack with a double and a single. Colt Culver drove in four runs on two singles and also stole three bases.

Jackson Ford swiped three bases and Sean Janes added a steal.

Huron took an early lead, but the visitors put up four runs in the second inning and nine in the fourth to pull away en route to a 19-6 win.

Five Huron arms were needed to get through the game as Jimmie Martin opened the game on the mound, tossing two innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, striking out one. Janes was the first reliever, tossing 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on two hits and five walks, striking out two.

Josh Gilbert allowed two runs over 2/3 inning on three hits and a walk. Culver allowed six runs on four hits and three walks while recording just one out. Blaise Simon finished out the game with 2/3 inning of scoreless baseball, allowing one hit.

The Tiger offense put together 12 hits, led by Bischoff and Collyn Hogle with a pair of singles apiece. Hogle added two stolen bases.

Porish smacked a double and Gilbert swiped two bases.

Huron 13U takes a 4-14-1 record on the road Friday against Aberdeen.
