Huron 14U, 13U teams compete in Yankton tournament

YANKTON – The Huron 14U Tigers won Pool B of the Bob Deery Classic over the weekend, but fell short of the championship game on Sunday in Yankton.

Huron opened with a 14-5 win over Mitchell Saturday, exploding for 11 runs in the top of the fourth to secure the victory.

Cooper Bischoff tossed all four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out eight Mitchell batters.

The Huron offense pounded out 15 hits and drew four walks. Anderson Porisch led the way with four hits, including a pair of doubles, and three stolen bases.

Bischoff had a pair of singles, a triple, and a steal. Jeremy Hofer added three singles and a stolen base.

Gavin Wldner had a triple, a single, and a stolen base while Chase Schuchhardt walked three times.

Teagen Lien had a double for Huron. CJ Siedschlag and Landon Hulst also had a stolen base each.

Huron jumped out with three runs in the first inning to come away with a 5-2 win over the Yankton Lakers.

Porisch threw six dominant innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out eight.

Waldner had a triple and a single from the leadoff spot in the lineup. Center fielder Hulst had a pair of singles and two steals. Korbin Brock had a double, single, and a stolen base.

Hofer had a double, and Porisch added a stolen base.

After winning the tourney opener on a big inning, the big inning came back to bite the Tigers in Sunday’s semifinal game against Sioux Falls Post 15, allowing 10 runs in the third to lose 11-2.

Hofer opened the game on the mound, allowing 11 runs over 2 2/3 innings on seven hits and four walks, striking out three. Siedschlag pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out one.

Waldner led the offense with a double and a stolen base. Hulst swiped a pair of bases, and Hofer and Bischoff had a steal apiece.

Huron takes a 23-8 record into tonight’s doubleheader against Mitchell at Klock Field beginning at 5 p.m.

YANKTON – The Huron 13U Tigers won one and dropped two in pool play this weekend in the Bob Deery Classic in Yankton.

Huron opened the tourney Thursday against Sioux Falls West. After tying the game in the fourth, the Tigers allowed two runs in the fifth that proved to be the margin in a 5-3 loss.

Josh Gilbert pitched all five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out five.

Ryker Shelton was the lone Huron player to reach base twice, drawing two walks and stealing a base. Quincy Rashaad swiped two bases, as did Tyce Huber. Sean Janes stole one base.

Eventual tourney champion Sioux Falls C2C Cubs scored in all four innings to take an 11-1 victory in the second game for Huron on Thursday.

Jimmie Martin pitched all four innings, allowing 11 runs, though only five were earned, on five hits and four walks. He struck out three.

Carter Porisch had a double. Janes stole a base, as did Jackson Ford.

On Friday, Huron closed out pool play by scoring four runs in the first inning and holding on for an 8-5 win over host Yankton Red.

Porisch pitched six innings to pick up the win, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks, striking out 11 Yankton hitters.

Gilbert led the offense with a double, a single, and a stolen base. Martin added a pair of singles and a stolen base.

Shelton and Porisch each had a steal.

Huron brings a 6-21-1 record into Wednesday’s home matchup against Mitchell at Klock Field, beginning at 5 p.m.
