Huron 14U splits with Smittys

Posted

HURON – After winning a tournament in Aberdeen last weekend, the Huron 14U Tigers got back a bit of their own medicine, splitting with the Aberdeen Smittys on Wednesday at Klock Field, winning the first game 10-9 but dropping the nightcap 14-7.

Huron trailed through most of the first game before a five-run bottom of the 7th allowed the Tigers to walk off with the 10-9 win.

Nolan Stahly opened the game on the mound, tossing three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk, striking out two. Korbin Brock relieved Stahly and did not allow a hit over 1 1/3 innings, but control issues led to four runs on five walks. Brock also recorded a strikeout.

CJ Siedschlag finished out the game for the Tigers, tossing 2 2/3 innings, allowing a run on two walks, striking out three.

The Huron offense was nothing short of explosive, led by Anderson Porisch, who had two doubles, a single, a walk, and stole a base.

Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles and stole two bases. Jeremy Hofer added a stolen base.

Intending to avoid a Tigers comeback, the Smittys put the game out of reach early, scoring seven runs in the first inning on the way to a 14-7 defeat of Huron.

Porisch got the start on the mound, but lasted just an inning, allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks, striking out one. Chase Schuchhardt tossed the next 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and five walks, striking out one. Landon Hulst got the final out via strikeout.

Porisch led the Huron offensive attack with three singles and a pair of stolen bases.

Bischoff had a double, a single, and a pair of steals.

The 14U team will take a 21-7 record into the Bob Deery Classic tournament this weekend in Yankton.
