Huron 16U sweeps Aberdeen in twinbill

HURON –– The Huron 16U teener team had a big day on offense Tuesday, claiming a doubleheader sweep against the Aberdeen Smitty’s 16U team, 18-3 and 13-0, at Memorial Ballpark.

In the opener, Huron took advantage of defensive miscues and walks by Aberdeen to score four, six, and eight runs in three innings before walking off with the 18-3 run rule victory.

Nolan Stahly pitched three innings for Huron, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five.

Jimmie Martin had a big day at the plate, with a double, two singles, three stolen bases, and five runs batted in. Tyce Huber clubbed two doubles and drew a walk, adding one stolen base.

Landon Hulst had two singles, a walk, was hit by a pitch, and stole two bases. Gavin Waldner had a single, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, also adding two stolen bases.

Zach Scheer had a single, two walks, and stole a base. Sean Janes was hit by a pitch twice. Carter Porisch had a single and a walk.

Korbin Brock and Parker Bischoff each had a stolen base.

Colt Culver set the tone on the mound for Huron in a 13-0 victory in the second half of the twinbill.

Culver tossed five shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out five.

Culver was also Huron’s top hitter in the second game, with two singles and a walk. Jackson Ford had a single, a walk, and stole two bases.

Noah Koops had a pair of walks and a steal. Jaxon Greenfield smacked a double.

Josh Gilbert had two of Huron’s nine steals. Diego Colon, Hulst, Stahly, and Quincy Rashaad each had one steal.

Huron is back in action Tuesday, hosting Brookings.
