Huron 16U wins one at tourney

SIOUX FALLS –– Huron 16U teeners won one of three games during a weekend baseball tournament at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls.
Huron scored two in the top of the eighth to take the first game over Post 15 West, 8-6, on Friday.

Huron held a 6-2 lead heading into Post 15’s final at-bat in regulation, but West scored four runs to tie the game and force extra innings.

Tyce Huber opened the eighth inning on second base with one out in the inning. Zach Scheer hit a single, but Huber was out at home attempting to score on the play. Scheer would move to second on the throw. Gavin Waldner was hit by a pitch and Korbin Brock ran for him.
Cooper Bischoff hit a single to load the bases. Parker Bischoff worked a walk to drive in the go-ahead run and Jackson Ford pushed a single to left field to score Brock, giving Huron an 8-6 lead that they made stand up with two quick outs in the bottom of the inning.

Nolan Stahly went 6 1/3 innings on the mound for Huron, allowing six runs on 14 hits and one walk, striking out three. Scheer closed out the game with 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief, striking out two.

Ford had a double and a single to lead the Huron offense. Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles. Gavin Waldner reached base five times with a double, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch.

Scheer had a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Parker Bischoff and Jimmie Martin each had a single and a walk.

Sean Janes had a pair of walks and Chase Schuchhardt had a walk and was hit by a pitch. Schuchhardt added a steal.

Sandhills Global of Lincoln, Neb. edged Huron in the second game on Saturday by the score of 4-3.

Sandhills Global had a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, and Stahly got a single to open the inning. After a pop out, Scheer hit a double to left, moving pinch runner Brock to third. Martin grounded out to score Brock and move Scheer to third with the potential game-tying run, but a ground out ended the game.

Colt Culver nearly pitched a complete game, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on 13 hits and a walk while striking out two. Martin closed out the game, getting the final two outs.

Parker Bischoff walked twice, and Schuchhardt had a single and a walk as the only two Huron hitters to reach base twice in the game.
Scheer laced a double and Cooper Bischoff and Martin each had a stolen base.

Diamond Dawgs 16U out of Minnesota came out swinging in the final game of the tourney Saturday, defeating Huron 16U 13-3.

Parker Bischoff was stung early, allowing give runs on one hit and four walks without recording an out. Janes pitched the next four innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and four walks while recording a strikeout.

Cooper Bischoff had a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Scheer added a double.

Huron’s record was 9-10 heading into Monday’s doubleheader at Pierre.
