Huron boys battle Harrisburg to draw

HARRISBURG — Despite giving up a pair of goals in the first six minutes of play, the Huron boys’ soccer team battled back f0r a 3-3 draw against Harrisburg on Thursday in the final game of the regular season.

Harrisburg opened the scoring with a goal in the first minute, but Huron rebounded with a goal by Ta Ha Saw on a pass from Ah Lar Sar in the fifth minute to even things up.

Harrisburg regained the advantage in the sixth minute with a goal and the game went scoreless the remainder of the opening half.

“Harrisburg came out with a lot of fire power and caught us off guard,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “We settled in and were able to control the midfield.”

With the first two goals of the second half Huron was able to take its first lead of the game at 3-2.

Biat Say scored in the 56th minute on a pass from Aung Aung Htoo and found the net again in the next minute on a pass from Lay Mwe Thaw.

Harrisburg would score the final goal in the 76th minute to earn the draw.

“They had a good offsides trap and made it difficult to get through balls at times,” Branaugh said. “I was proud of how we came out in the second half and put a couple goals in. We played with intensity and purpose.”

Eh Ja Beh Win finished with six saves as the goalkeeper for Huron.

Huron emerged with a 5-3 win in the junior varsity game.

Elder Coello Morales had four goals for Huron, while Emerson Lopez Ramos had the other goal.

Mister Min assisted on all five goals.

Huron’s Jaxon Andru had nine saves.

The postseason is set to begin, however, with a 4-6-3 Huron is on the bubble as far as hosting a game in the opening round.
