Huron gymnasts close home season with invite

HURON — Senior Eastyn Eichstadt and junior Cameron Ruth turned in top 10 performances for Huron in the all-around during the Huron Gymnastics Invite on Friday at the Tiger Activity Center.
Ruth was sixth with an all-around total of 34.300, while Eichstadt finished tied for ninth at 33.600.

“Eastyn Eichstadt and Cameron Ruth had an all around great meet,” Huron coach Julie King said.

The Tigers posted a score of 127.650 to finish fifth in the 5-team event, but King was happy with her team’s effort in the final home meet of the season.

“Again we continue to improve that team score,” she saic.

Mitchell used a score of 148.400 to win the event, while Watertown was second at 141.550.

Brookings was third at 140.05, while Yankton was fourth at 133.300.

Mitchell teammates Bentley Bates and Olivia Prunty were first and second, respectively, in the all-around with scores of 38.400 an 36.750.

Bates won on the bars for the Kernels with a 9.850, the balance beam with a 9.850 and floor exercise with a 9.650. Prunty and Delilah Fuls of Brookings shared the top spot on the vault with scores of 9.400.

Huron had a strong showing in the floor exercise. Eichstadt was 15th at 9.100, while Ellie Puter baugh was 20th with an 8.750. Ruth finished tied for 21st at 8.700, while Alivia Cunard shared the 24th spot with an 8.600 and Eh Dah Paw was tied for 27th at 8.250.

“Alivia Cunard, Ellie Puterbaugh and Eh Dah showed up on floor tonight. I was  very impressed,” King said.

Ruth led the Tigers in the other three events. She tied for th 10th on the bars with an 8.250, was 13th on the beam with an 8.550 and was 13th on the vault with an 8.880.

Eichstadt turned in an 8.650 on the fault to finish 15th, while Puterbaugh was a spot back with an 8.600.

Huron will travel to Watertown for a triangular, which includes Aberdeen Central, on Thursday before closing the regular season with the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet in Watertown on Jan. 27.
