HURON –– Huron posted their best team score of the season Thursday, as they hosted Watertown and Aberdeen Central in a triangular at the Tiger Activity Center.
Watertown took first as a team in the triangular with 145.20 team points. Aberdeen Central finished second with 135.80 and Huron rounded out the team scoring with a 131.90 mark, besting their season-best score by more than three full points.
“The girls continue to improve, and it shows with their team score,” Huron coach Julie King raved.
Shauna Evenson of Watertown used wins in the vault and beam to propel her to the all-around victory over a pair of Watertown teammates.
Maiya Hein finished best in the all-around, placing eighth for Huron, and she also had the best finish of the day in an individual event for the Tigers, placing fifth in the floor exercise.
Huron’s coach observed the team-wide improvement on the floor exercise.
“Floor is getting more confident and polished. Maiya Hein placed fifth and had a qualifying score of 9.2,” King observed. “Her teammate Alivia Cunard scored a season-best with a 9.05.”
Huron won the JV competition handily, scoring 104.05 points as a team. Aberdeen Central placed second with a 86.90 score and Watertown had 84.75 team points in the junior varsity competition.
“JV girls finished out their season with a win tonight,” King noted. “Lots of talent coming up for the future!”
Autumn Siedschlag and Cora Wilk tied for fifth in vault and Lah Po Soe took fifth in bars to pace Huron’s individual finishers in the junior varsity portion of the meet.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday at the ESD Conference meet in Yankton.
