Huron gymnasts open 23-24 season

HURON — The Brookings Bobcats swept the top two places in three of the four apparatus Tuesday at the Huron Tiger Quadrangular gymnastics meet, held at the Tiger Activity Center, to easily take home the team title.

Brookings ended with a team score of 134.95, led by All-Around winner Layla Erickson’s 35.5 and runner up Delilah Fuls, who scored 34.75. Sophie DeGroot of Sioux Falls Lincoln was third with a 32.85. Erickson won three of the four disciplines at the quadrangular.

Lincoln finished in second place with a team score of 123.35, with Huron finishing third, with 110.2. S.F. Washington rounded out the quadrangular field with a team score of 69.050.

Huron was led in the all around by Cameron Ruth and Eastyn Eichstadt, who each scored 30.3 on the day, as they tied for sixth in the meet. Alivia Cunard had a 26.65 and Ellie Puterbaugh finished with the fourth highest score for the Tigers with a 22.9.

Individual events

Vault

Erickson and Fuls finished the Vault with identical 9.35 scores, while Anna Leuning of SFL was third with an 8.850. Eichstadt scored an 8.4, Ruth an 8.35 and Puterbaugh an 8.3 for Huron.

Uneven Parallel Bars
Erickson ended atop the heap in the Bars, with a score of 8.45. Kennedy Ronning of Brookings and Fuls tied for second with matching 7.85s. Huron was led by Ruth’s 7.05 and Eichstadt had a 6.55.

Balance Beam
Fuls took top honors in the Beam competition, scoring a 9.0, with DeGroot second with an 8.5 while Erickson was third with an 8.15. Eichstadt notched a 7.35 to pace the Tigers, while Puterbaugh pulled a 6.95.

Floor Exercise
Erickson led a trio of Bobcats to the podium in Floor, as she scored a 9.55. Teammate Amber Brockberg was second with a 9.0 and Fuls finished third with an 8.75. Huron was led by Ruth’s 8.5, good for a fifth-place tie, while Eichstadt tied for 10th with an 8.0.

Huron returns to action in a triangular on Thursday, as they host Pierre and Chamberlain back at the TAC. Meet time is 5:30 p.m.
