HURON — In response to the closure of the local urgent care facility, Quick Care, the Huron Rising 2.0 Healthcare Committee convened recently, with an aim to find a solution to ensure availability of same-day, urgent and after-hours care in the community, according to Kim Rieger, vice president of ancillary and support services at Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and co-chair of the committee.
The Huron Rising 2.0 Healthcare Committee is a task force formed to explore and address healthcare access, workforce and cultural barriers or opportunities and is a product of the Huron Rising 2.0 event held by the Huron Community Foundation earlier in the year.
The sudden closure of Quick Care prompted the committee to shift its focus to determine potential solutions to fill the urgent care gap.
“Quick Care played an extremely valuable role in our community,” said Rieger. “The first response from our Healthcare Committee was to learn more about the services they offered and patients they served so we can join together with the health providers in the community to continue that care.”
With representation from each health clinic in Huron, members of the Huron Rising 2.0 Committee are looking to each other and within their respective organizations for solutions. Some of the tactics discussed have been increasing same-day appointment availability, extended hours, telemedicine, weekend hours and more.
The Huron Rising 2.0 Healthcare Committee plans to meet again this week. Individuals with interest in joining a meeting or offering input can contact Kim Rieger at krieger@huronregional.org or 605-353-6554.
