Huron School District Foundation announces 'Day of the Tiger' fundraiser

Posted

The Huron School District Foundation is gearing up for an exciting new fundraising event that promises to unite the community in support of local education.

Dubbed the “Day of the Tiger,” the event will take place on December 13, and will feature a unique opportunity for local businesses and residents to contribute to a meaningful cause: providing scholarships for Huron High School graduates pursuing higher education.

From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., the foundation will host a series of one-hour fundraising blocks, during which businesses can support the cause by matching donations received within that time slot.

The goal is simple but impactful: for each hour, businesses will challenge the community to meet a donation goal, with the business offering to match the total donations up to a specified amount.

For example, at 10 a.m., a “Sponsoring Business” will kick off the “Sponsoring Business Hour,” with a commitment to match donations up to $500. The event will be promoted across social media and local radio stations, encouraging donors to give through the foundation’s website or by texting to receive a donation link.

The event will culminate during the evening’s home basketball game, providing a festive and high-energy conclusion to the day of giving. All funds raised during “The Day of the Tiger” will go directly into the Huron School District Foundation’s fund at the South Dakota Community Foundation, where the interest earned each year will be used to provide scholarships for Huron High School seniors.

Businesses are encouraged to participate by sponsoring two one-hour slots throughout the day, with a $1,000 commitment for each slot. These sponsorships not only support the foundation’s mission but also give businesses a chance to gain exposure and recognition for their commitment to education.

To further incentivize donors, businesses that contribute at least $5,000 will be recognized on the foundation’s Donor Wall, which will be prominently displayed in the Grand Hallway between the Arena and the Convention Center at Huron High School. Businesses can achieve this level by making a one-time donation or committing to reach the $5,000 threshold over time.

With a goal of fostering community engagement and raising funds for educational scholarships, the “Day of the Tiger” is shaping up to be a highlight of the holiday season.

For more information on how to participate as a business sponsor or how to donate, visit the Huron School District Foundation’s website, follow the event on social media, or contact the foundation at info@hsdfoundation.com.

Recently, several generous donors have been added to the donor wall. Margaret Lehr has joined the 10k Black Level, while the Class of ‘74, Dr. Dean and Beth Mundhenke, and the William Anderson Family Music Scholarship have made significant contributions at the 5k Orange Level and 25k Tiger Level, respectively. These new additions highlight the continued support and commitment from the community.
