HURON — The Huron Police Department was involved in an incident north of the Buchanan K-1 Center Thursday afternoon.

The Huron Public School sent an email to parents of students at Buchanan, noting that the situation involving the HPD did not involve the school and noted that students and staff were not in danger.

Later in the afternoon, the police department released a statement regarding an altercation with a “suicidal and homocidal male” at a residence.

Shots were fired by an HPD officer as well as by a Beadle County Sheriff’s Deputy.

No further information was available and the incident’s investigation has been turned over to the S.D. Division of Criminal Investigation.
