HURON — Ione Ferguson, age 94, of Huron, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, June 26, at Welter Funeral home; or one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ione Ruth Ferguson was born on Aug. 2, 1930 to parents Samuel and Elsie (Johnson) Johnson in Huron. She attended Huron schools before marrying Floyd Ferguson on June 3, 1946, in Mitchell. Ione and Floyd made their home in Huron where they raised their children, Larry, Kathy and David.
Ione loved to plant flowers. She also loved to spend time at the family cabin at Lake Byron. She also loved to bowl, go rummaging and alleying. She was a member of American Lutheran Church and was part of the ALCW church circle.
She is survived by her children, Larry Ferguson, Kathy Schlueter and David (Pam) Ferguson, all of Huron; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Roxanne (William) Cooper, Sonja (Eugene) Nonnast, and her brother John (Roxie) Johnson; and her step-mother, Thelma Johnson of Whitewood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 2015, her parents Elsie and Samuel, Helen and Clifford, her sisters Phyllis Weber, Nadine Meyers, Carol Auer, and Pam Harman; son-in-law Frank Schlueter and grandson Gary Johnson.
