HURON — The Huron Tigers junior varsity baseball season opened the season with a split doubleheader, winning the opener 8-2 and dropping the second game 7-0 to Sioux Falls Lincoln at Klock Field.

The Tigers used a six-run third inning to jump ahead of the Patriots and never looked back. Gabe Waldner got the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, striking out seven. Nolan Stahly closed out the game by striking out the side in the final inning, allowing a hit and two walks.

Waldner had a double and a single as well as a steal. Parker Bischoff had a pair of singles and a steal.

Zack Scheer had a single, a walk, and a steal. Sean Janes walked twice. Stahly had a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Cooper Bischoff and Oakley Anderson each also had a stolen base.

Lincoln’s Cooper Wasmund stifled the Huron offense in the nightcap, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out 10 Tigers as the Patriots claimed a 7-0 victory.

Oakley Anderson started the game on the mound for Huron, going six innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks, striking out five. Cooper Bischoff pitched the last inning, allowing three runs on four walks and a strikeout.

Scheer had a pair of singles, a hit-by-pitch, and a stolen base to lead the Huron offense.

Jeremy Hofer stole a pair of bases for Huron while Cooper Bischoff and Parker Bischoff each stole a base.

The JV Tigers are back in action Tuesday against Pierre at 5 p.m. at Klock Field.
