ABILENE, Texas — James “Jim” Allen Hill (77) was born February 22, 1947 in Brookings, the son of Kermet and Mildred (Nelson) Hill. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Jim married Ardyce Schneider on March 25, 1970, nearly 55 years of marriage. He graduated from SDSU with a degree in Industrial Arts Educ. He taught I.A. and Drivers Ed in S.D., N.D., and Wyoming. Jim and Ardyce moved to Knox City, Texas and later to Abilene, Texas, following his retirement from teaching.
Jim was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Abilene, and a former member of the Elks Lodge #2588. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having proudly served in the Navy, S.D. National Guards, and Navy Reserve.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and watching Vikings football games and Westerns on TV.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ardyce; son Robb (Nannett) Hill, Grand Junction, Colo.; granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Matt Miller) Hill, Wyoming, and Cori Hill, Colorado; daughter Michelle (Jim) Childs, Rotan, Texas; grandson Dalton Kiser, Heber City, Utah; son Eric (Gina) Hill, Miami, Fla; grandchildren Dean and Curyn Hill, Miami; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ted and Rick, sister Susan Hogie, and nephew Christopher Hill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4933 S. 7th St., Abilene, on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. His cremains will be interred in the spring in Bethesda Church Cemetery, in Huron, S.D., with Military Rites.
