HURON –– Jerry D. Fode, age 83, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Avantara in Huron. Per Jerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

Jerry Dean Fode was born on Dec. 21, 1941, to parents Emil and Betty (Horn) Fode in Huron. Jerry attended school in Huron. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served for four years at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware from 1960-1964. He was primarily an aircraft mechanic while serving. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jerry returned to Huron where he began a 38-year railroad career, first with Chicago-Northwestern as a switchman in Huron and later transferred to Burlington Northern/Union Pacific in Nebraska where he advanced to conductor and engineer until his retirement.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He had a great passion for hunting, walleye fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed playing pool and trap shooting.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Fode of Huron; his sons, Jay Fode of Huron, Tyler (Briggette) Fode of Piedmont, and Troy (Kerley) Fode of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kip, and his brother Jim Fode.
