SIOUX FALLS ––James “Jim” Delvaux, 90, of Sioux Falls went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2025, at Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb, 20, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Interment with military honors will follow at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls. An online guestbook and link to view the service are available at www.georgeboom.com.
Jim was born in Huron, on June 21, 1934, to Lawrence and Ursula Delvaux. He was the oldest of nine siblings. He graduated from Cavour High School in 1952. Jim joined the United States Navy and served for three years; he was honorably discharged in 1955.
Jim attended Huron College where he met the love of his life, Arlys Lundgren Ludtka; he graduated from Huron College in 1960 and began teaching at Huron Junior High School. He joined The SD National Guard in 1960 and served 11 years. In 1967, as a Captain, Jim volunteered for active duty. His first assignment was helicopter training enroute to Vietnam. He retired from the Army in February 1983.
Jim’s awards include the Bronze star, 12 air medals and four meritorious service medals.
After retiring from the military, Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service and H&R Block tax service. He also volunteered with various veteran and youth organizations. Jim was an avid golfer and sports fan.
Jim is survived by his son, Rick (Linda), Dubuque, Iowa; daughter, Debbie (Bob) Martin, Rapid City; grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, Mitch, Courtney and Tanner; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Lobash; and brother, John Delvaux.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlys; grandson, Landon; six siblings; and many other relatives and friends.
