Huron JV baseball earns home win

HURON –– The Huron Tigers junior varsity baseball team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep over the Lincoln Patriots on Sunday at Memorial Ballpark.
The Tigers notched a shutout, 8-0, in the opening game. Nolan Stahly tossed four no-hit innings, allowing just one walk and striking out four. Oakley Anderson closed out the game on the mound with two shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out one.
The Huron offense put two runs across the plate in the first inning and added four runs in the third to take a sizable lead.
Leadoff hitter Cooper Bischoff had a double, a single, and a walk while stealing four bases. Tommie Martin also had a a pair of hits, with a triple and a single. Chase Schuchhardt was the last Huron hitter to reach base twice, with a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a stolen base.
Korbin Brock chipped in a double and Parker Bischoff added a stolen base.
After giving up a pair of runs in the first inning of the second game, Huron bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead. A big eight-run fourth inning sealed a 12-4 victory and the doubleheader sweep.
Tyce Huber took the ball to open the game, allowing three runs in 3 2/3 innings. While he did not give up a hit, Huber walked eight Patriot hitters and struck out five.
Colt Culver finished the game with 1 1/3 hitless innings, with his one walk leading to a run, meaning the Tigers held Lincoln hitless throughout the second game.
Korbin Brock walked three times and Zach Scheer reached base three times with a single and two walks, stealing one base as well.
Jackson Ford had a double and was hit by pitch. Huron had five total steals, with Culver, Schuchhardt, Parker Bischoff, and Huber each adding one steal on top of one by Scheer.
The Tigers JV team is back in action on April 22, hosting Pierre.
