JVC boys, girls, win at Miller Invite

MILLER — The James Valley Christian boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each came away with team titles on Monday at the Miller Invitational Cross Country meet.

The JVC boys scored 56 to edge North Central, with 65. Northwestern placed third with 104 points.

Miller’s Pierce Baumberger broke the tape in the boys’ race with a time of 18:07.03. Wamni Kills Crow of McLaughlin placed second with a time of 18:15.73 while Dax Frandsen finished third in 18:23.45.

Korbin Stark of Faulkton crossed the finish in 18:23.78 to place fourth and JVC’s Kaden Ober placed fifth at 18:24.11.

Brooks McPeak led Highmore-Harrold’s runners with an eighth place finish in 19:00.39. Jordan Erfman finished 19th with a time of 20:01.73.

Sam Welsch finished 12th at 19:26.79 for Wessington Springs.

JVC also had Tayne Herrmann place 13th at 19:34.60 and Giddeon Walner finish in 20:16.14 to place 20th within the top 25.

Beyond Baumberger, Miller had Isaiah Gortmaker finish 16th in 19:49.95.

Jacksen Carter led Wolsey-Wessington runners with a 23rd place finish in 20:20.96 while Jimmy Burma paced Sunshine Bible Academy runners with a time of 20:29.76 to place 25th.

The Lady Vikings used three runners in the top ten to edge Ipswich for the team title 54 to 67.

Ipswich’s Madisyn Gellhaus won the individual title with a time of 21:08.82. JVC’s Hadasah Olson took second at 21:22.11 with Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold coming in third with a time of 21:32.29.

Dannika Kaup of Potter County finished fourth with a time of 21:48.47 and Madeline Nye placed fifth for Miller at 21:58.13.

Daril Frandsen led the next wave of JVC runners, placing sixth at 22:13 with Andee Frandsen coming in ninth at 22:33.17. Micaiah Brantner also finished in the top 25 with a 16th-place finish in 23:08.49.

Kendal Uttecht placed 11th with a time of 22:54.90. Gabby Werdel of Miller finished 15th in 22:59.28.

Alexis Roesler led Wessington Springs’ runners, finishing 18th at 23:38.29.
