JVC girls third in 281

HURON - The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first period and never let the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks back into the game, claiming third place in the 281 Conference girls’ tournament with a 61-46 victory Thursday at Huron Arena.

The Lady Vikings move to 7-4 behind 20 points and nine rebounds from Kaylie Robinson. Alexa Goertz added 14 points and Addison Bartholow chipped in 13.

Addyson Knight also had nine rebounds for JVC.

The Sharks fell to 7-5 despite three players in double figures. Addison Moore led I/LP with 13 points and Kera Dubro and Becca Bich each had 11.

JVC will host Miller Thursday while the Sharks will host Castlewood at Lake Preston Friday.

5th place girls - Wolsey-Wessington 52, Highmore-Harrold 47
HURON – After finding themselves down by 10 in the second half, the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds battled back to take a late lead, but the Highmore-Harrold Pirates rebounded to force overtime. The Lady Warbirds then outscored the Pirates 7-2 in the extra period to win 52-47.

Wolsey-Wessington (5-7) was led by Lainey Uttecht with 23 points and Shae Uttecht. with 12 The two combined to score 23 of Wolsey-Wessington’s 27 points in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. Shae led Lady Warbird rebounders with six.

The Pirates fall to 5-6. Eighth-grader Jada Baloun led H-H with 17 points. Addison McDonnell chipped in 10 points. Kendall Cermak topped the Pirates with six rebounds.

The Lady Warbirds will host Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday while the Pirates are off until they travel to Wolsey on Thursday.

7th place girls - Hitchcock-Tulare 59, Sunshine Bible Academy 24
HURON – The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots used a 19-4 second quarter to take control of the game, en route to a 49-24 victory over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders to claim seventh place in the 281 Conference girls’ tournament Thursday at Huron Arena.

The Lady Patriots move to 3-7 while SBA falls to 1-8.

Katelyn Schroeder led the way for H-T with 23 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and three assists.

The Crusaders had three players with five points to lead scoring as Annaliese VanZee, Betra Amare, and Breanna Thieman each reached the mark. VanZee nabbed eight rebounds and Amare ripped away seven steals to lead SBA.

Hitchcock-Tulare will host Redfield and SBA travels to Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday.
