JVC, Highmore-Harrold win 2023 281 Conference titles

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The James Valley Christian girls and the Highmore-Harrold boys won titles during the 281 Conference Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.

The Lady Vikings had four of the top seven runners to finish with nine points, while Highmore-Harrold was second at 17 and Wessington Springs was third at 24.

Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold was the top girls’ runner with a time of 20:36.6.

Hadasah Olson of JVC was second at 21:24.5, while Kendall Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington was third at 21:32.0.

Rounding out the top five were Rhayonna Hood and Lily Swanson of JVC with times of 22:05.2 and 22:07.9, respectively.

Highmore-Harrold needed a tiebreaker to claim the top spot over Sunshine Bible Academy in the final boys’ standings as both teams finished with 14 points. The fourth runner for the Pirates was ninth, while the fourth runner for SBA was two spots back to determine the conference team champion.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was third at 18.

Jeff Boschee of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket claimed the medalist honors with a winning time of 18:36.8, while Jimmy Burma of SBA was second at 19:02.6.

Edwyn Reyes of Wolsey-Wessington claimed the third spot with a 19:04.6. Rounding out the top five were Brooks McPeak of Highmore-Harrold at 19:06.4 and Trey Thieman of SBA at 19:13.8.
