Vikings pick up second win over ranked team within week

HURON — Coming off a big win over No. 2-ranked Rapid City Christian, the James Valley Christian Vikings, ranked fifth in the most recent poll defeated their second ranked opponent within a week, coming away with a 5-1 victory over fourth-ranked Freeman Academy Tuesday at JVC.
Noah Fast opened scoring for the Vikings at the 24 minute mark, putting in a rebound. Just before half, Carson Dorris headed in a goal on a cross pass from Gavin Waldner and the Vikings went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats scored first after half, but Waldner, Isaac Fast, and Keeghann Hood each scored for JVC to reach the final 5-1 tally. Hood’s goal was assisted by Jonah Miller.
Jonah Niederbaumer had five saves for the Vikings.
The Vikings won the junior varsity game 3-2 behind goals from Skylar Thielbar, Keeghann Hood, and Kasen Ober. Ober’s goal was assisted by Niederbaumer.
The Vikings, who improved to 5-3, will host Hot Springs on Friday.
