Vikings end long stretch of frequent game action with victory Saturday

HURON — The James Valley Christian Vikings soccer team ran the gauntlet of seven games in 15 days, wrapping up the run with a 4-0 win over Dakota Valley on Saturday at the JVC soccer field.
Rain on Friday and through Saturday morning made for a sloppy field, but the Vikings took the lead in the 20th minute with a free kick by Isaac Wipf and JVC took the 1-0 lead to the halftime break.
In the second half, the Vikings got rolling ass Kolby VanDerWerff took an pass from Kheeghann Hood in the 55th minute to make it 2-0, then moments later, VanDerWerff found a cutting Noah Fast, who hit the back of the net. Fast wrapped up the scoring with a late free kick.
JVC outshot Dakota Valley 18-14 and goal keeper Jonah Niederbaumer recorded nine saves as JVC improves to 6-4-2 on the season. JVC is at Mitchell on Thursday.
The Vikings also won the JV game, 6-1, with two goals each from Skylar Thielbar and Carson Dorris, while Lainey Goertz and Keegan Loewen each netted a goal. Hood was in the net as the Viking junior varsity team improves to 3-1-2.
