HURON — Karen R. Peck, age 77, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, April 10, at Welter Funeral Home.
Karen Rae was born on Sept. 25, 1947, in Huron to parents Leslie Oscar and Ida (Lundquist) Ringheimer. She attended Huron schools, graduating in 1965. Karen attended Northwest College of Commerce. She started her career working part-time for the Veteran’s Service Office in 1966 through 1969. She worked at a few other places including Campbell Soup Factory, Charlotte’s Café and for attorney H.W. Markey. Karen returned to the Beadle County Veteran’s Service Office in 1983 and officially retired in 2012. She also worked at SunQuest Village part-time for four years.
Karen married Dean Carroll in 1969 and together they had their son, Mike. Later, she married Jack Peck in 1999. Karen was a member of the Virgil Legion Auxiliary from 1969 to 2023. She enjoyed crocheting, playing dominos and attending car races. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Karen and Jack enjoyed road trips, visiting Jack’s homestead by Ree Heights, attending concerts and having fun at casinos.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Debra) Carroll of Huron; grandsons, Drew (Colleen) Carroll of Mitchell and Devon (Madi Marohl) Carroll of Parker; great-grandchild, Finley Carroll; her step-children and grandchildren Travis (Janet) Peck of Huron and their children, Taylor Peck of Rochester, Minn., and Jackson Peck of Huron, and great-grandchild Vienna Peck; Terence Peck of Huron and his children Traiton (Andi) Peck of Brandon and Tanner Peck of Warner; sister Marvis (Terry) McClure; sisters-in-law Shirley Peck of Mesa, Ariz., and Shirley Peck of St. Lawrence; and dear friends DeAnn Christensen, Wyann (Delayne) Tebay, and Lealda Higgins, all of Huron; nieces Brenda (James) Bishop and Kathy (Kyle) Meyer, nephew Robert McClure.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack Peck on March 16, 2025; brothers-in-law Joe Peck and Jim Peck; sister-in-law, Donna Koeck.
