HURON — Kenneth Barnette, age 82, of Huron, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life for Kenneth on Saturday, June 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Crossroads Hotel in Huron. A block of rooms is available from May 31-June 1 under Barnette Celebration of Life. You can reserve a room by May 17 at a reduced rate. Food and drinks will be available. Please come and join the family celebrating Kenneth’s life and share your favorite memories.
Kenneth was born in the community of McCrory, Ark., on August 16, 1941, the son of the late Marvin William and Allie Mae (Lindsey) Barnette.
Kenneth spent his younger years in his hometown of Augusta, before following family to Huron, where he spent many years excelling at selling life insurance, winning numerous awards. He met his future wife, Patricia Bauer, and they were married in 1963, raising their family in Huron until 1988. He and Pat next moved to the Black Hills, where they lived for many years. Kenneth started a quick lube business in Spearfish that he owned and operated for many years.
He loved the outdoors, and spent many hours boating and skiing, fishing, snowmobiling, especially loving horseback trail riding and camping in the Hills. He was also very fond of cars, as anyone who knew him would tell you. Kenneth was the consummate salesman, and never missed a chance to talk to anyone, and always had a story to tell. He will be very much missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Karen (Bauer) Barnette, three children: Anthony (Jackie) Barnette, Shelley (Dennis) McDowell, and Kerry (Jason) Schumacher, and three grandchildren, Dia (Galacia) Pokos, Rachael Barnette and Derek Barnette, as well as brother Billie Walter (Bobbie Jo) Barnette.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Wayne Marvin Barnette and Johnny “Milburn” Barnette, and a granddaughter, Jessica Barnette.
The family asks for friends and family to share their favorite memories of Kenneth on the online guestbook.
