Huron drops game against Spearfish Friday

HURON — Using a late goal, Spearfish edged Huron 2-1 in a boys’ varsity soccer game on Friday at Tiger Stadium.
After scoring the lone goal in the first half, the Spartans came up with a goal during the 79th minute to secure the victory against improve to 2-0.
“It was a tough game tonight. Spearfish is a physical team and a good team,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “They played a great offsides trap on us and we just couldn’t time the runs to get the ball through.”
The lone goal for the Tigers came early in the second half to even the score at 1-1. Biat Say scored on an unassisted shot during the 43rd minute.
“I thought our defense played well and we did a good job moving the ball,” Branaugh said. “The boys played aggressive and a few mistakes cost us in the end.”
Micah Larson tallied eight saves at the goalkeeper for Huron.
The Tigers recorded a 3-2 victory in the junior varsity game.
Elder Morales, Pah Ra Sai and Matthew Thin had goals for Huron. Klo Hser recorded nine saves.
The Tigers will head right back into action today, with a home game against Sturgis. The game is slated to start at noon, but an earlier start is possible due to the extreme heat.
