To the Editor:

The arguments concerning property rights and CO2 sequestration all seem to ignore three critical scientific facts.

1. If we can get rid of enough CO2 to make a climate difference, we also bury two parts of oxygen which we need to breathe.

2. CO2 does not exist as a liquid except under high pressure or low temp, making the movement by pipeline dependent on huge amounts of power, resulting in more climate warming.

3. No substance can occupy the same space or state of energy as another; therefore the CO2 we bury will push aside the most easily displaced substance. In this case, Methane, which is a gas, can diffuse into the atmosphere above.

4. Methane is more harmful to the environment than CO2 and should be safely burned, yielding CO2 and water, thus yielding more CO2.

5. The power required to transport and store the CO2 and control Methane will resort in a net loss to environment.

6. The farmer’s corn field is nearly neutral for solar energy. A slight reduction in acres planted and the establishing of tree rows would absorb much of the CO2 they need to get rid of.
