To the Editor:

Ok, I can’t sit back and ignore this anymore. We started a group in September 2022 to trap, spay or neuter and release wild cats in our city. There are a lot of animal lovers that feed these stray cats.

The only way to stop this cycle is to fix them, release them back to their colonies, and let them live their happy lives without producing more kittens. We have altered over 100 cats so far, which will make a huge difference!

Well, suddenly, the police were threatening jail for anyone that feeds the cats on the fairgrounds, and the humane society decided to kick it in gear and start trapping all of these cats. For crying out loud, these animals have lived there for years and years, and suddenly it is a problem. (They have removed all the cats from the fairgrounds and who knows where else.)

The Humane Society is full of cats so I am sure most will be taken to be destroyed. What are we trying to prove here? Handing out animals unalted to people – which has been done since I have lived here – does not help the animal overpopulation. Taking in strays and having them destroyed certainly does not fix things. So we try to find a solution and everybody fights it.

I get it, there are cat haters everywhere but come on people, if you can hate an animal that much, you probably hate the birds, squirrels and people too. Trap neuter release (TNR) is in cities all over the US. It’s time to find a better solution to these poor helpless animals!!!
