To the editor:

After watching what is going on in Washington the last several days and listening to Elon Musk promote firing thousands of federal employees which he says are doing nothing - with no proof to back most of the firings. I wonder why he doesn’t fire the Republican-controlled Congress, because it is apparent they are not doing anything for the American people?

Now, even though Trump promised that he wouldn’t touch Medicare or Medicaid when he was campaigning, it seems that also is on the chopping block. He also said he would lower the prices of fuel and groceries, yet prices of groceries and fuel have all gone up since he took office.

The national debt increased $7.8 trillion the first four years Trump was in office. Now, the projection is way above that for the next four years. Trump wants to continue the tax breaks for the billionaires.

President Reagan’s tax break raised the debt one and a half trillion dollars. President Bush’s tax break raised the debt five and a half trillion. That is nearly $15 trillion of our total debt under three Republican Presidents.

It has been proven that tax breaks for the very wealthy doesn’t help the low- and middle-class Americans.

People will still get sick whether or not the Affordable Care Act is in place. We had a poor relief fund that helped pay hospital bills. Our Congress members should think of the burden that they are going to place on the states and counties if they go through with Trump’s plan.

The party of law and order seems to have forgotten the oath they took to uphold the Constitution and laws of this country.
