To the editor:

After watching “Meet the Press” Sunday morning, I need to respond to some statements President Trump made.

He was asked if he has to uphold the Constitution. He responded, “I don’t know.” Apparently, when he took office, upholding his oath to the Constitution wasn’t a priority for him.

He doesn’t seem to think people have their rights under our laws to a fair hearing in court. He wants people to believe that all the persons deported were violent criminals. There are many people sent to foreign prisons who never had their opportunity to plead their case.

This is what happens in authoritarian countries - people’s due process is violated.

Trump was asked about a third term. He probably doesn’t think he will need to be re-elected. He told people at Turning Point Action Believers Summit on July 26, 2024, that they “won’t have to vote anymore” if they get him re-elected in November.

Trump, when asked about Medicare and Medicaid, doesn’t make the same statements he made during the campaign that he wouldn’t touch those programs. He now talks about changes to the programs.

When asked about the economy, he wants credit for some things, but he blames Biden for other parts. He seems to dodge what the tariffs are starting to do to our economy. Tariffs are a tax on consumers.

Will they be willing to pay more in order to give the rich another big tax break?

Trump wants to spend millions of dollars on a military parade, but he is cutting programs that help school lunches and other programs.

I have been told that Trump is renting a refurbished Quartari Boeing 747 as an interim Air Force One. I wonder what is wrong with the current plane?
