To the editor:

With the upcoming 100th Anniversary celebration of the South Dakota Legislature, we think it is appropriate to honor two citizens who went above and beyond their legislative duties during sessions in Pierre. Those two individuals are Ann Eichinger, a retired State librarian and Mark Proctor (deceased) a devoted CASA supporter.

Ann and Mark had incredible energy and dedication. They were the first ones in the office in the morning and the last to leave. They helped put together daily caucus calendars including brief summaries of the bills, resolutions, committee meetings and daily social events.

In addition, Mark gave the legendary Volesky brothers, Tucker and Tyler, tours of the Capitol and kept them entertained while their father, Ron, spoke eloquently on the House floor. Ann categorized, summarized and organized caucus agendas for pertinent issues during the Legislative sessions. She did extensive research and managed our day-to-day activities.

Both Ann and Mark had warm personalities and big hearts. They welcomed visitors to the Capitol office and treated everyone with dignity and respect.

In conclusion, Ann and Mark are two examples of the numerous dedicated citizens who gave their all to make sure the Legislature operated efficiently. So as we gather to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the South Dakota Legislature on April 12, we should also honor those South Dakotans who worked so diligently to make the legislative sessions successful.
