To the Editor:
I wish to take this opportunity to nominate, endorse and support the induction of Ron Volesky into the Huron High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Ron is a 1972 graduate of Huron High School, where he excelled as a superb all-around athletes for the Huron Tigers. During his playing days for the Tigers, Volesky led Huron as its starting quarterback his junior and senior years. He was a highly-skilled passer, who ran a pro-style offense and was given the responsibility of calling his own plays and was even allowed by the coaching staff to audible plays at the line of scrimmage. I might add that he also handled the punting duties for the Tigers.
After performing on the gridiron, Ron earned All-state honors as one of the top performing basketball players in school history. From there he went on to earn a spot on the Harvard University basketball team, which was and is a Division 1 program.
While in high school he was also an outstanding distance runner, who at one time held the record in the two-mile run for Huron, while qualifying and competing at a number of state track meets.
Volesky was a gifted and classic all-around athlete and his induction into the Huron High School Athletic Hall of Fame is long overdue.
