BROOKINGS — The eastern South Dakota Regional Make it with Wool contest was held Saturday, Sept. 14, in Brookings.
Margo Wachter, of Huron, competed in the Made for Others Category in a garment constructed by her grandmother, Louise Bauman. She wore a grey weskit and circle skirt made of grey wool. She placed second in her division. She won 1.5 yards of wool along with a stuffed animal — Ram.
Evangeline Wachter of Huron competed in the Young Sewer Division. She modeled in the wool trousers she constructed. She also competed in the “Wearable Accessory” division. She submitted both hair accessories and a purse constructed for the contest. She placed 1st in the division with her purse. She won a sheep pelt, houndstooth wool, 1.5 yards of 100% wool and some new sewing supplies.
Georgia Wachter of Huron competed in the Pre-teen Division. She modeled a wool plaid mod dress she constructed from a 1960s pattern. She placed first in the Pre-Teen Division. She also entered the “Wearable Accessory” division with a cell phone carrier and purse. She won 2.5 yards of 100% wool and new scissors and sewing supplies.
All entrants are eligible to continue to the State Make It With Wool Contest in Rapid City to be held the end of September.
The event is sponsored by the National Make it With Wool Contest and Sheep Growers Association.
