HURON — Marion “Mike” Barnes, age 90, of Huron, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service is Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Living Hope Alliance Church. Burial is in the Ideal Cemetery.
His visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 2, at Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday evening.
Marion “Mike” Barnes was born on April 6, 1934, at Harrold, to John Marion Barnes and Emma Anna (Galinat). He married Geraldine “Jerri” Wollman on September 22, 1957.
Mike was a long-time resident of Huron, before joining the United States Army as a Signal Specialist on July 23. 1954. Mike was honorably discharged on July 10, 1957.
Mike worked for Armour Company in Huron, as well as the City of Huron for many years. He also owned the Standard Gas Station before moving to Seattle, Wash., with his beautiful bride, Jerri, to take a position with Boeing Aircraft Corporation. Mike then became a Plant Manager for Bayliner Marine Corporation until his retirement in 1995.
During his time with Bayliner Marine Corporation, Mike and Jerri were transferred to many facilities. While in Valdosta, Ga., Mike and Jerri attended, as well as starting a mission church in Hahira, Ga. Mike loved hiking, the outdoors, fishing with his brother Jack, playing games on Friday nights with Lee, Julie and his daughter Michelle, but mostly spending time with his family.
Mike’s faith in God never wavered through the good time as well as the difficult times in life. Mike was a true example of a Godly Man. Sharing his faith with all those around him. He was a member of Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron where he attended regularly.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Alan) Barnes-Monaghan of Huron, two granddaughters: Madison (Joseph) Kinney-Clark of Eugene, Ore., and Carrington (Chance) Kinney-Davalos of Roseburg, Ore.; one grandson, Jared (Ashley) Dykes of Melbourne, Fla.; four brothers, Wendell (Jose) of Angels Camp, Calif., Wesley (Peggy) of Rapid City, Lee (Julie) and Randy (Lois), all of Huron, three sisters, Wanda Wieker of Chancelor, Wahneeta Norton of West Point, Neb., and Wilma (Jerry) Seaman of Huron, one sister-in-law, Marie Barnes of Tempe, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are Mike’s loving wife, Geraldine “Jerri”; his son, Michael Bruce; his father, John Marion; his mother, Emma Anna, three brothers, Russel, Norris and Norman “Jack,” five brothers-in-laws, Dennis Wieker, John Norton, Darryl “Walley,” Cordel “Butch” and Redell Canada; and three sisters-in-law, Louis Barnes, Betty Barnes and Patricia Canada
Mike’s smile will be missed along with his joyful personality, humor and easy-going attitude. His love for all will leave a void in our hearts.
