Marlene Forbes was born on Aug. 31 1937, to George Beckman and Hazel (Moeller). She was one of five daughters Jean, Ethel, Carol, Lois and three brothers Richard, Lloyd, Carl. The family lived on a farm near Cavour.
Marlene graduated from Cavour High School. Cavour is where she met Harold, her husband of 64 years.
The young couple moved to a farm near Wolsey and had three children Jeffery (who passed away shortly after birth), Tim and Tom. After living on the farm, they moved to Huron and later to Aberdeen where she worked at Control Data and Gibsons for a short period of time. After spending many years in Aberdeen, they moved to Ellendale, N.D. where she raised sheep and worked at the local restaurant. From Ellendale they moved to LaMouren N.D. then onto Mobridge, where they resided until Marlene moved to Aberdeen after Harold’s passing.
Marlene loved buying and fixing up houses. After selling each house she would always ask Harold “did we make any money?” She saw every house as a possibility by just painting and pulling some weeds. Harold and Marlene would spend their days at the fixer upper doing their thing of painting or repairing whatever needed to be done.
Marlene loved people and they loved her back. She always had to be doing something whether picking up those dreaded pinecones in Mobridge or picking small pieces of paper doing her “hot laps” at Primrose. Marlene also enjoyed camping with her family and when her family came up to Aberdeen for the horse races.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Harold, son Jeffery, parents George and Hazel, Sister Carol (Baum), brothers Carl Beckman and Lloyd Beckman, father in-law Harold Forbes Sr. and Regina (Arends), brother in-law Charles Snyder and sister-in-law Janelle (Synder).
Grateful for enjoying her life are sons Tim (Trudy) of Atlanta, and son Tom (Jill) of Mobridge; sisters Lois (Norman) Ferguson of Huron, Jean (Bud) Hart of Huron, and Ethel (Clarence) Nelson; brothers-in-law Gene (Carol) Baum and Dean (Susan) of Urbandale, Iowa. Marlene had three grandchildren, Scout (Sean) Hurd of Brookings, Alexander Forbes of Atlanta, Hunter Forbes of Denver, along with three great-grandchildren Tayler, Maverick, and Hendrix. Marlene will be greatly missed by a host of loving family and friends.
