HURON — Several of the surrounding communities will host special Memorial Day programs on Monday.
Here is a glimpse at what is planned in the area.
Huron
HURON — Huron will hold a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. in the Huron High School auditorium. Ron Volesky will be guest speaker.
Alpena
ALPENA — David Burnison will be guest speaker at the Owen Kunze Alpena American Legion Post 116 Memorial Day service at 4 p.m. Monday, May 27, at the Alpena Community Center.
The Wolsey American Legion Post 59 will be assisting with the service this year.
A light lunch for a freewill donation will be provided following the program.
Hitchcock
HITCHCOCK — The Hitchcock area Memorial Day program is 11 a.m., Monday, May 27, at Altoona Cemetery. The program will consist of a roll call of the dead with wreaths hung for each war veteran and the unknown soldier. A meal will follow at the Raymond Hart Post 84 Legion Hall.
Iroquois
IROQUOIS — The Bensley- Round American Legion Post 280 of Iroquois will be hosting a Memorial Day Program at the Iroquois School South Gym at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27.
The guest speaker will be Casey Crabtree. Also speaking will be the Good Citizenship Recipients Avah Newman, Carter Arbeiter, Rebecca Bich, Nathan Enninga.
Histories of two local individuals will be read: Navy Lieutenant Elmer Kasperson (killed in action) and Army Corporal Dale Dollenbacher (missing in action).
A meal will follow at the Iroquois American Legion Hall with freewill donations. The public is encouraged to attend.
Virgil
Wessington
WESSINGTON — A Memorial Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Wessington Legion hall.
A potluck will be held following the program. Please bring a hot dish and salad or dessert.The program is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
Wolsey
WOLSEY — A Memorial Day program is planned at 10 a.m. Monday in the Wolsey Community Hall. The event is sponsored by Hershman Gordon American Legion Post 59.
