MILLER — Mervin Mewes, 78, of Miller, formerly of Highmore, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Highmore. Burial will follow at Highmore Cemetery. A wake service will be 7 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with visitation one-hour prior.
Mervin Richard Mewes was born August 15, 1940, in Highmore to John and Nada (Millar) Mewes. He graduated from Highmore High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Doris Louise Wieseler June 11, 1960. They made their home in Highmore. They purchased Mewes Trucking from his mother Nada after the passing of his father. They ran the business until moving to the ranch where he bred and raised Limousin cattle until he retired.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Daniel Mewes of Collinsville, Ala., Gary (Judi) Mewes of Rapid City, Cheryl Johnson of Cushing, Iowa, John (Tammy) Mewes of Jamestown, N.D., and Patricia (Lynn) Harrell of St. Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Merlin Mewes of Viborg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell Leslie; and son-in-law, Larry (Dan) Johnson.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Mervin’s arrangements.
